Fund History

The scholarship fund was founded by three Past Presidents of Stockton East Rotary (SER). They were John Macomber, Walt Wolterstorff, And Dan Walker. They made numerous trips over a period of several months to the offices of The Secretary of State, The Attorney General, and the Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento, and to the Regional office of the Internal Revenue Service in San Francisco.

After approval by these federal and state agencies, the Fund became a reality. Each of the three Founders contributed $5.00 dollars to begin the development of the Fund. As of today, the Fund has grown to almost $100,000.00 dollars as a result of generous contributions by the members of Stockton East Rotary. Beginning in 1980, scholarships have been given to students who attend San Joaquin Delta College and the University of the Pacific (UOP). This is done annually. Dan Walker served as Executive Secretary of the Fund for twenty seven years. Walt Wolterstorff has served as Financial Secretary for twenty seven years and continues to serv. At the Annual Meeting of the Fund in February 2005, Dr. Vivian Snyder of UOP, a former member of SER, was elected to replace Dan Walker as Executive Secretary. Chris Weed is Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
